Who is Behind Discontinued-China.Net? |
My name is Mike Eley and for seven years I owned and managed a discontinued china matching/replacement service, called The China Detectives.

We dealt with all makes of discontinued china including Adams, Colclough, Denby Pottery, Minton, Royal Albert, Royal Doulton, Royal Worcester, Wedgwood, Villeroy & Boch and many more.

The China Detectives started out as a market business, operating from markets and fairs local to us in Poole, Dorset, UK. Initially we only dealt with Denby Pottery and Poole Pottery. However, within a year or two I created our first website and immediately the business bloomed, transforming almost overnight into an international mail order supplier of discontinued tableware, dealing with all potteries and china manufacturers.

All good things must come to an end however. Deciding it was time for a change, and wishing to pursue my interest in web site development, I sold The China Detectives to our friends and rivals Chinasearch in February 2004.

I am still passionate about discontinued china, particularly discontinued tableware by Denby Pottery, Royal Doulton and Wedgwood. I am unable to walk past market or car boot sale stalls without checking them to see if there are any discontinued china bargains. And, while I no longer operate a china replacement service I do sell discontinued Royal Doulton, Denby Pottery and Wedgwood china on eBay, through user id AccumulationsUK.

This wasn't enough to fuel my china and collectibles passion however. So I decided to fulfill a dream I had when running The China Detectives. I wanted to create an online library of discontinued tableware, providing gallery images for people to identify their china, information about the patterns and potteries, and assistance in helping people to match their missing pieces, without actually running a replacement service. Above all I wanted to unravel the secrets of sourcing discontinued china with a view to giving the control back to the consumer, by giving them free information, and the power of choice. This was the birth of discontinued-china.net.
